A long injury free run at last. Woo hoo!

I returned to the North Inch at Perth today to the scene of the 24 hour race on 13 September. I wanted to see if I could have a run of at least 2 hours, at 24 hour race pace, and finish because I wanted to rather than my knee was forcing me to. And guess what? It happened just as I had hoped! Allybea came up with my and gave me water after every lap (2.38 km/1.48 m). I covered 4 laps in the first hour, 4 in the second, then an extra 2 in the next half hour for good measure. 10 laps/approx 15 miles in 2 and a half hours. And, even better, no problems with my knee.

So the 24 hour race is still possible. If I can get 2 decent weeks training and have no adverse effects, then I'll do it. Even though I felt I was going really slowly today, I was still averaging 6 miles an hour, a lot faster than the pace I would expect to average over a full day. That is encouraging - it means I would be able to build in a reasonable stop every couple of hours, and still be covering a fair amount of distance.

Good run. Does this mean you are looking for some support again???

Hope you can get the necessary training in as it sounds like you really want to do this 24hr race.

Or is this just a warm up for an attempt at the JOGLE???

6 miles per hour, multiplied by 24 makes 144 miles. Is this rally your 24 hours race pace?

Hi Ian,
Thanks for your comment on my blog. I've been reading over yours and a congratulations is in order!

As I've commented to John, I have nothing but admiration for anyone who can run the distances and paces that the two of you (and many others I'm sure) can manage.

My training for Loch Ness is going well so far, easing back into the running is going better than I'd hoped and sponsorship is coming in at a nice pace. I can't wait to get up and do a few long runs on the course, my boyfriend is very enthusiastic about cycling alongside with ample amounts of water and lucozade for me!

Take care,
Christine.

Hi there,
Thanks for the comment on my blog. I'm looking forward to getting in some long training runs. Where do I find out about these organised ones?

Sounds like you had a good run at perth. My fiance is running the 100K. he's last years Scottish champion so will be hoping for a good time. Unfortunately I won't be able to be at the race but I am sure we will both make it to some of these WHW training runs.
Good luck in Perth.

Good luck, Ian. I'm not sure I admire you, but I do know you're completely mental :-) A characteristic that will get you through a 24-hour race. Have fun. Actually is it possible to have fun whilst running in circles? :-) At least Allybea won't have logistical and parking problems for checkpoints. A hammock and a good book and she'll have a lovely day out.
